SELECTMEN’S MINUTES
2/05/2002
PRESENT:  Jeffrey Jordan, Theodore Bailey, Dennis Call, Judy Kenneally

OLD BUSINESS:

The minutes of 1/29/02 were approved as written and signed.

NEW BUSINESS:

Subject:  Public hearing, Elderly Exemption
Highlights:

Chairman Jordan read the modifications to the exemption.  The requested increase to the income limits are $20,000 for single persons and $35,000 for married persons.  The requested increase to the asset limit is $100,000.  The requested increase to the exemptions are $30,000 for ages 65-74, $27,000 for ages 75-79, and $35,000 for ages 80 and over.

Subject:  Tax Collector, Evelyn Pike
Highlights:

Mrs. Pike is researching the Glen Booth property for tax deeding purposes.  The Town attorney was consulted and discoved that Mr. Booth is not the sole owner.  There are owners too numerous to list.  The Board will discuss the matter and let Mrs. Pike know how to proceed.

Subject:  Public hearing, Disability Exemption
Highlights:

The requested increases to the disability exemption are $25,000 for single persons and $35,000 for married persons.  The requested increase to the asset limit is $100,000.  The exemption remains the same at $55,000.

Subject:  Gil Vien
Highlights:

Mr. Vien inquired about the old engine.

Subject:  Police Chief, Patrick Clarke
Highlights:

Chief Clarke would like to add immunizations to the Animal Control budget for rabies shots for the officers.

Training also should be increased to $1100 due to a change in ammo requirements.  Lead ammo is no longer allowed.

Animal control expenses should be increased to $800 to cover 2001 expenses paid in 2002.

The Chief requested that administration be increased by $1000 to cover the cost of training the part-time officers two days a year as apposed to once.

Subject:  Board discussion
Highlights:

There is concern regarding Mr. Briggs on Carpenter Road parking his vehicles on the road.  Judy will draft a letter.

The Board agreed that the insurance for the old engine should be discontinued.

Escrow projects were included as a budget item.
